Feeling Overwhelmed with Digital Accessibility? We Did Too.

Hi there,

I still remember the day I got a call that left a pit in my stomach. I was building websites, doing what I thought was a solid job. And then came this phone call that flipped things upside down:

“The sites you’re working on aren’t accessible.”

I felt that sharp, sinking feeling in my stomach – the kind that hits when you realize there’s something big you didn’t know. I had thought I was good at building websites, that I was doing a good job. But suddenly, it was clear there was a whole layer of important, meaningful work that I’d been missing.

Thankfully, they helped me get trained. But I’ve never forgotten that moment. That little jolt of panic. That self-doubt. That realization that what I was putting out into the world wasn’t working for everyone. And I had no idea how to fix it yet.

Maybe you’ve had a similar moment. Or maybe you’re afraid of the day it will happen.

Maybe you’re someone who…

  • Has been building websites for years but still feels unsure when accessibility comes up in client conversations
  • Wants to offer accessibility as a service but isn’t sure how to price, pitch, or support it
  • Feels overwhelmed by WCAG or worried you’ll get it “wrong”
  • Is tired of googling scattered advice and wants structured, trustworthy support
  • Wants to do right by your clients and the people who use their sites

If that’s you, I want you to know: you’re not alone – and you don’t have to figure this out by yourself.

Back then I was always a step behind, waiting for someone to point out what I’d missed. These days I help other people build accessible, inclusive sites, and I’d like to help you do the same.

That’s why I created The AAArdvark Circle – a place for freelancers and agencies who want to grow their skills and build a more inclusive web.

It’s everything I wish I had when I was starting out: structured support, real-world guidance, and a community that gets it.

Before joining the Circle, I felt like an accessibility team of one. Since becoming a member, I've gained more clarity about which fixes to prioritize. I used to feel instantly overwhelmed when I saw all the errors. Now, I feel better equipped to decide what I can fix myself and what needs our developer's help. Most importantly, I'm getting leadership buy-in as they start seeing the difference.

AAArdvark Circle doesn't just teach guidelines - they help you understand why accessibility works the way it does, and how to apply it thoughtfully in real projects. Having access to seasoned accessibility professionals who can answer nuanced questions and share practical, real-world insight is absolutely priceless.

Who is Natalie?

Hi, I’m Natalie MacLees, founder of AAArdvark and a longtime advocate for building a more accessible, inclusive web.

I’ve been designing and building websites for over 20 years, working with everyone from Fortune 100 companies to scrappy startups to nonprofits doing essential work. I’ve led development agencies, created and maintained WordPress plugins, and contributed to the WordPress community in many ways, including co-founding WordPress Accessibility Day in 2020, which continues to grow each year.

I’ve also led WordCamps, contributed to the WordPress Meta team, and spent my career helping teams improve the accessibility of their digital products.

I created AAArdvark because accessibility shouldn’t be overwhelming or reserved for experts. And I created the AAArdvark Circle because I wanted freelancers and agencies to have a space to build skills, confidence, and sustainable services around accessibility, without feeling like they had to figure it out alone.

Whether you’re just beginning to fold accessibility into your work or looking to grow what you already offer, I’m here to help you take the next step.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When does the AAArdvark Circle open?

Enrollment will only be available for a short time through July 31st. If you miss this window, you’ll need to wait for the next cohort.

  • How much time do I need to commit each month?

This is a “go at your own pace” program. You can attend monthly Q&As live (or catch the recordings), browse trainings on your own time, and use the templates and resources as needed. Some members spend 1–2 hours a month; others dive in more deeply.

  • Is this for beginners or experts?

The Circle is designed for freelancers and small agencies with some awareness of accessibility, but not deep expertise. If accessibility feels overwhelming or you’re still figuring out how to offer it confidently to clients, you’re in the right place.

  • Will I get a certificate or formal credential?

Not yet! While the Circle may include certification prep content in the future, it’s not part of this initial launch. Right now, the focus is on building real-world skills and confidence.

  • What if I can't make the live Q&A calls?

No worries! Every session will be recorded and posted to your member dashboard within a few hours. You’ll also be able to pre-submit questions if you can’t attend live.

  • What happens if I cancel my membership?

If you cancel, your access to all training, templates, and replays will end at the conclusion of your paid period. If you rejoin later, you’ll pay whatever the current rate is at that time (your summer member rate is only guaranteed if you stay subscribed).

  • Is there a refund policy?

Because the Circle includes instant access to digital resources, we don’t offer refunds. But we’re real people. If something comes up, reach out and we’ll work with you.
