Alt Text Auditor is a browser extension published by AAArdvark. This policy explains what the extension does with your data. In short: it collects nothing, stores nothing, and sends nothing anywhere.
What the extension does
When you click the Alt Text Auditor toolbar button, the extension reads the images on the page you are viewing (and any embedded frames on that page) and opens a report tab listing each image alongside its alt text or accessible name. It runs only when you click the button. It does nothing in the background and nothing on any page you have not explicitly asked it to audit.
What data we collect
None. Alt Text Auditor does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or usage data. There are no analytics, no tracking, no accounts, and no external servers.
How your data is handled
- The image information the extension reads is used only to build the report you see, on your own computer.
- That information is held briefly in your browser’s session storage so the report tab can display it, and it is discarded when you close the browser session. It is never uploaded or sent off your device.
- The extension requests broad site access so it can read images inside embedded, cross-origin frames on whatever page you choose to audit. This access is used only to build your on-device report, and only when you click the button.
Permissions
- Read the current page’s content: required to list the images and their alt text.
- Session storage: required to pass the report from the reader to the report tab.
