What is AAArdvarkBot?

AAArdvarkBot is the automated scanning tool (also called a crawler, or bot) used by AAArdvark to help identify accessibility issues on websites. It performs accessibility checks by programmatically analyzing web pages, including structure, content, and code, to assist users in making their sites more inclusive and compliant with accessibility standards.

Why is AAArdvarkBot accessing your site?

AAArdvarkBot may visit your website because:

  • A registered AAArdvark user has requested an accessibility scan of your site
  • You are using AAArdvark’s services to track and monitor accessibility issues
  • Your website is part of an accessibility audit being conducted by a third party using AAArdvark

How AAArdvarkBot works

  • Limited Concurrency: AAArdvarkBot scans a site’s pages in small batches, up to 6 pages at a time, so a scan doesn’t overload your server.
  • Backs Off on Failure: If a page doesn’t load, AAArdvarkBot waits before retrying (a few seconds, longer for sites behind a managed firewall) instead of immediately requesting it again.
  • Standard Browser Identification: By default, AAArdvarkBot’s requests use a standard browser identifier rather than a distinct bot signature. If you want to confirm a specific visit was AAArdvarkBot, contact our Support Team with the timestamp and page, and we’ll verify it.
  • No Data Collection for Advertising: AAArdvarkBot does not collect or use data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than accessibility analysis.

If a scan comes from an unexpected IP address

Some sites sit behind a firewall or WAF we can’t allowlist directly, like Shopify-managed Cloudflare. For those sites, our team can route scans through a residential proxy instead, so the IP address a scan comes from can vary and won’t always match AAArdvark’s usual scanning infrastructure.

If you see traffic you can’t otherwise account for and want to confirm it’s a legitimate AAArdvark scan, contact our Support Team with the timestamp and we’ll check it against your scan history.
